Exclusive: Stratford Town knocked back in summer loan enquiry for Leicester midfielder

Stratford Town have been rebuffed in their attempt to sign Leicester City midfielder Khanya Leshabela on loan.

Leshabela impressed when the Foxes sent an Under-19 side to face Stratford Town – who play in the Evo-Stik Southern League Central Division Premier – in a pre-season friendly back in July. It is understood that Stratford immediately asked about the availability of the 19-year-old midfielder.

They were told that the youngster would feature heavily for Leicester’s Under-23s this season and that he would be staying put for the 2018-19 campaign.

Leicester rarely send young players out on loan, preferring them to stay at the club and prepare for life in the first team under the tutelage of experienced coaches Steve Beaglehole, Ben Petty, Trevor Peake and Stephen Kirby.

The likes of Daniel Iversen, Harvey Barnes and George Thomas are all currently out on loan in the Football League; while goalkeeper Max Bramley is with AFC Telford United.

Third-year scholar Kian Williams is on a work experience loan at Stratford Town’s league rivals Barwell.
